South Africa’s industry watchdog the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA) says the country’s second network operator (SNO) could be operational by the middle of next year, introducing much needed competition to Telkom SA. Last week the regulator awarded 13% stakes in the new company to the Two Consortium and CommuniTel, which join existing shareholders Transtel (15%), Eskom (15%) and Nexus Connexion (19%) in the new entity to compete with the PTO.
