18 Dec 2003

The Swiss telecoms regulator ComCom has granted a GSM-1800 licence to an alliance comprising pan-Nordic operator Tele2 and local company In&Phone. ComCom began inviting bids for the concession in July 2003 and when the deadline for submissions expired on 30 September seven applications had been received. In addition to the winning bidders, tenders were submitted by Global Network Switzerland AG, SITA, Swissphone Systems, Télésonique and Technocell. Tele2 has said that it will concentrate on providing services to the residential customers, with In&Phone choosing to focus on the corporate sector.
