Government asks USD49.5 million for Enitel stake

16 Dec 2003

The government of Nicaragua has placed a reserve of USD49.5 million on the 49% stake in national PTO Enitel it plans to sell via a second round of auction bidding on 17 December. It is understood that Mexico-based América Móvil and a group backed by companies in Sweden and Honduras, Megatel, had already placed provisional bids but, as they were not informed of the minimum price, failed to make the mark. Megatel already holds 40% of Enitel, while América Móvil is active in the country through mobile operator PCS Digital and broadband cable operator Turbonet.
