Manx gets licence renewed

15 Dec 2003

mmO2 subsidiary Manx Telecom has had its telecoms communications licence renewed for a further 15 years. The telco provides mobile, fixed line and internet services to around 70,000 customers as the sole operator on the Isle of Man. mmO2 has used Manx to pilot and gain feedback for its 3G services before rolling out networks at its German, Irish and UK operations; the Isle of Man operator was the first cellco in Europe to switch to a live 3G network in December 2001.
