Far EasTone stays loyal to Ericsson

12 Dec 2003

Taiwan mobile operator Far EasTone and its Yuan-Ze Telecom subsidiary have decided to stick with long-time equipment vendor Ericsson as their sole supplier of 3G network equipment. The Taiwanese cellco has selected the Swedish company for its latest UMTS expansion contract, which includes the deployment of a W-CDMA radio access and core network. In January 2003 Far EasTone inked a deal with Ericsson making the Swedish vendor its sole supplier of 2G and W-CDMA infrastructure equipment. As part of the contract Ericsson agreed to expand and upgrade the operator’s existing GSM network to provide it with an evolution path to GPRS and eventually 3G.
