Alcatel to expand Digitel’s GSM network

27 Nov 2003

Filipino GSM operator Digitel has awarded Alcatel a USD100 million contract to increase the network capacity of its subsidiary Sun Cellular to one million subscribers. The expanded network is needed to handle growing consumer demand, primarily on the island of Luzon, and will be rolled out early next year. Alcatel, which has been Digitel’s vendor of choice since its launch in 2001, will supply and install its Evolium GSM/GPRS and EDGE-ready solution, including base stations and switching equipment.
