On Friday UK telco Thus announced it is to quit the country’s directory inquiries market, the first company to do so following deregulation of the sector in August. Thus, which operated the 118 355 number, made its decision following the release of a survey by telecoms watchdog Oftel, which ranked the telco’s performance the lowest amongst all the services available. Oftel said that only a third of Thus’ customers received the right information when inquiring for residential numbers. It found that nearly four in every ten callers to a 118 service was given the wrong number. Alongside Thus, the worst offender was 192.com, which had a 43% success rate; former monopoly provider BT had a 63% score.
