Nine in race for contracts with nation’s largest bank

Brazil’s largest bank Banco do Brasil (BB) has announced that it is to auction two contracts to manage its telecoms network. The auction has been put back one week to 20 November and the winners will convert BB’s ATM/frame relay backbone to internet protocol (IP) technology. It has not revealed a price for the contracts. So far nine companies have confirmed their intent to bid, including Telemar, Embratel, Brasil Telecom, Portugal Telecom and AT&T Latin America. BB has 17 million customers across 12,000 points of presence in Brazil’s 27 states.
