10 Nov 2003

Greek mobile operator Cosmote has announced that it will begin offering the i-mode service developed by Japan’s NTT DoCoMo by mid-2004 – in time for the Athens Olympic Games. The cellco plans to carry the i-mode service over its GPRS and 3G networks in Greece, and has also agreed to launch the service through its subsidiaries in Albania, Bulgaria and Macedonia, expanding DoCoMo’s European footprint still further. According to the Japanese operator, there are around 40 million i-mode subscribers in Japan, and an additional one million outside the country. DoCoMo has already made i-mode available in Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Spain.
