3 Nov 2003

Afghan Wireless, which operates a GSM network in Kabul, has completed the installation of a new 100,000-line mobile switch, using equipment supplied by Siemens. The cellco says that the switch, which is expected to be launched commercially sometime in November, will upgrade network capabilities and add capacity to its network. It also plans to use the switch to extend its reach to Jalabad. Afghan Wireless has been upgrading its network in Kabul since February, when its parent TSI agreed to purchase Siemens’ network equipment worth more than USD4 million to improve transmission.
