MCC builds CDMA into Moscow network

Russian mobile operator Moscow Cellular Communications (MCC) has announced the commercial launch of a new 450MHz Cdma2000 1X network serving the Greater Moscow area. The infrastructure was built by US manufacturer Lucent Technologies, incorporating its Flexent base stations, Packetstar PSAX Media Gateways and related SDH optical equipment. MCC launched an analogue NMT-450 network in 1991 and by the end of March 2003 offered services to around 200,000 people, a national market share of approximately 1.1%.
