Japanese telco KDDI has released positive results for the fiscal first half of the year to the end of September 2003, powered by the growth of its cdma2000 1X mobile offering and heavy demand for photo and video messaging. At the end of the period the operator reported operating revenues of JPY85.9 billion, and has revised its full year 2004 profits forecast to JPY95billion, compared with JPY57 billion last year. Sales, however were flat at JPY1,390 billion. The telco’s operating profit rose by 165% to JPY158.2billion from JPY59.8billion. KDDI’s mobile unit au added 1.2 million subscribers in the six month period.
