Regulator begins tender for second GSM licence

30 Oct 2003

Iran’s Ministry of Post, Telegraph and Telephone (PTT), has launched a tender for the country’s second nationwide GSM licence. The GSM-900/1800 concession will be valid for 15 years, renewable every five years. Bidders are required to submit bids by 15 November. The move is thought to have come about following Iraq’s decision to invest in its own GSM networks; improved coverage in Iran is hoped to lead to roaming revenues between the two countries.
