KTIG goes to GPB to sue CCOK over GSM licence

30 Oct 2003

The Kenya Telecommunications Investment Group (KTIG) has gone to court in an attempt to prevent rival Econet Wireless from receiving the country’s third GSM licence. KTIG is appealing to the Government Procurement Board (GPB) to stop the Communication Commission of Kenya (CCOK) from issuing the licence. KTIG has also said it intends to sue the CCOK over the decision. Two KTIG officials have resigned following the telco’s failed licence bid, apparently in protest over the company’s decision to launch legal proceedings against the regulator.
