Strong subscriber growth for Mobistar

28 Oct 2003

Belgium’s second largest mobile operator Mobistar has witnessed subscriber growth of 13% in the year to 30 September 2003, taking its customer base to 2,508,248. The operator attributed the rise to the introduction of mobile number portability (MNP), which came into effect a year ago; it claims to have won over 57,000 net customers as a direct result of MNP, and has seen a significant increase in postpaid customers resulting to a better balance between post-paid and pre-paid accounts. In the twelve-month period, ARPU increased by 3% to reach EUR34.21 a month per active customer, encouraged by the increasing popularity of both data and voice transmission services. Total turnover rose by 14.7% in the year to reach EUR848.6 million at the end of September.
