India is set to meet its wireless penetration target of 7% by the end of this year, almost 15 months ahead of schedule, according to the Telcom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). By the end of September the cellular subscriber base of the country’s operators combined to exceed 23 million. The regulator noted that wireless in local loop services (WiLL) have had a considerable impact, gaining around five-times more new subscribers in the first half of this year than in 2002.
