Telstra snaps up Powergen network

2 Oct 2003

The European subsidiary of Australian telco Telstra has acquired the communications network of UK utility group Powergen for an undisclosed fee. Under the deal Powergen will continue to ‘own’ the network’s estimated 200,000 customers, whilst Telstra will take control of the switches and metropolitan points of presence (POPs). Telstra Europe will also be responsible for maintaining the infrastructure and for providing a managed service platform to Powergen. The network reaches around three quarters of the UK’s main business districts.
