US-based Airspan Networks has won a contract from Brazilian telco Grupo Sinos to build a fixed wireless network in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the first of its kind in the country since the regulator sold licences in the 3.5GHz range in April this year. Airspan will roll out the network using its WipLL platform, enabling Grupo Sinos to launch high speed internet access and voice services. Airspan is hoping to strike similar deals with the other 3.5GHz licence winners, Embratel, Brasil Telecom’s Vant Telecomunicaçoes, WKVE and Directnet; it expects to close a contract with WKVE this week.
