Nextel Mexico, which operates digital trunking services in the country, is set to face competition in the lucrative corporate services market in 2004 when Mexican mobile operators roll out push-to-talk services. Nextel utilises Motorola’s Iden technology to provide walkie-talkie services for companies with employees such as sales staff or construction workers who work in different locations. It reported 580,700 subscribers at the end of June 2003, an 85% market share. However, this is set to change when Iusacell offers push-to-talk next year.
