18 Sep 2003

New Ecudorian cellco Telecsa has contracted Ericsson to supply and install its nationwide cdma2000 1X wireless network, capable of speeds of up to 2.4Mbps. Ericsson will be the sole supplier of core and radio network equipment, and will construct a full portfolio of services, including MMS, SMS, voicemail and pre-pay options. Telecsa, a 50/50 venture between fixed-line telcos Andinatel and Pacifictel, will attempt to break the current duopoly in the country’s wireless market, dominated by BellSouth Ecuador and Conecel.
