Vodacom plans April 2004 launch

South African cellco Vodacom has announced that it will launch a service in Mozambique by April 2004. Vodacom claims to have been negotiating interconnection with fixed line telco TDM and its mobile subsidiary mCel for a period of twelve months; threats of legal action eventually secured agreement. Siemens will begin constructing the new network, with Vodacom tabling capital investment of in the region of USD260 million. The new network will operate under the brand name Vodacom Mozambique.
