Double digit subscriber growth for MTN

South Africa’s MTN Group has reported that its Ugandan subsidiary saw a 10.8% increase in its customer base to over 400,000 in the two months to 1 September. MTN claims to have invested in the region of USD175 million in its Ugandan operation, pioneering innovations such as solar-powered payphones. As of 30 June 2003 MTN had 2.24 million subscribers to networks outside of South Africa, in countries including Rwanda, Cameroon and Nigeria.
