Government to push new 3G standard

The Chinese authorities have said that they will spare no effort in supporting the development by Chinese companies of a new third-generation mobile technology, time division synchronous code division multiple access (TD-SCDMA). Although less recognised that the world’s other two principal 3G technologies, cdma2000 and W-CDMA, the Chinese government believes TD-SCDMA has vast market potential and is keen to complete the industrialisation of the standard. China Datang Mobile Communications Equipment has been charged with heading up the development of the technology and to this end has forged partnerships with equipment suppliers Siemens, Samsung and Phillips.
