26 Aug 2003

The Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK) has announced that four companies have been shortlisted for bidding for the country’s third GSM licence. Econet Wireless Group of South Africa, Dutch holding group Mobile Systems International (MSI), Kenya Telecommunications Investments Group and South African conglomerate Telsar Solutions/Telcel International all had their financial and technical bids approved by the CCK, which will announce a winner on 4 December. One Cellular, a joint venture between Sweden’s Swedtel and AI Byte of Kenya, was the only pre-qualified bidder that failed to submit a final proposal.
