Ministry shuts down ‘illegal’ VoIP service

22 Aug 2003

The Ministry of Post and Telematics (MPT) has ordered FPT Communications to shut down its recently-launched internet telephony service, after the government said the company launched without proper authorisation. Although FPT holds a licence to operate as an open service provider, the MPT says it has not been granted its requisite inter-ministerial operating certificate. FPT hopes to receive ministerial approval soon and resume services soon after.
