Siemens allocates EUR60 million per annum for homegrown 3G

German equipment manufacturer Siemens Mobile, part of the Siemens group, is to invest EUR60 million a year for developing China’s homegrown 3G variant, TD-SCDMA, according to the company’s chief operating officer Lothar Pauly. The German firm is currently holding trials of the fledgling technology and hopes to rollout the first networks in 2004 after the regulator has issued its 3G licences.
