Vodafone lawsuit thrown out by judge

5 Aug 2003

A GBP150 million lawsuit filed by Formula 1 racing entrepreneur Eddie Jordan against UK-based cellco Vodafone [London: VOD.L] was yesterday emphatically dismissed by a High Court judge. Jordan had claimed that Vodafone’s global branding boss David Haines had promised to sponsor his racing team during a short telephone conversation between the pair in 2001. Vodafone denied the claims and was supported by Mr Justice Langley who branded Jordan’s claims false and the man himself a ‘wholly unsatisfactory witness’. Jordan unsuccessfully tried to stop the case at the last minute by offering to pay all of Vodafone’s legal costs.
