SES looking to invest new funds in broadband alliance

1 Aug 2003

The world’s largest satellite operator SES Global has announced plans for a wide scale expansion of its broadband services, having secured more than USD1 billion through a debt refinancing. The cash will be used to fund new projects and acquisitions, and refinance debt arising from its USD4.34 billion acquisition of rival Americom last year. The remainder of the money is being earmarked for the creation of an alliance with other satellite operators, aimed at delivering high-speed internet access to those not served terrestrially in Europe’s five largest markets – Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the UK. SES has not yet made public its potential partners in the project.
