Australian telco Telstra [TLS.AX] has said it expects its annual revenues from broadband services to top AUD1 billion by 2006. The operator, which has invested AUD1 billion in the sector, currently has around 250,000 broadband subscribers, representing two-thirds of the Australian market. It is hoping to reach half a million customers by the end of 2005 and plans to invest a further AUD1 billion in the expansion of its broadband service portfolio over the next five years. Telstra offers broadband services over its hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) network and via satellite under the BigPond brand name.
