The investment company belonging to billionaire businessman George Soros is rumoured to have teamed up with New York-based Apollo Management to table a USD1.5 billion bid for global mobile services provider Inmarsat Ventures. The offer, which trumps an earlier one of USD1 billion from an alliance between investment vehicles Apax Partners and Permira, is set to be discussed by Inmarsat’s existing shareholders, including Telenor [TEL.OL], BT [BT.L] and Deutsche Telekom [NYSE: DT], with an outcome expected to be announced sometime in the autumn.
