GSM or CDMA for new wireless network?

The US-led Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA) in Iraq is currently in a dilemma over whether to use GSM or CDMA technology for the new mobile network in the country. It was initially speculated that the GSM standard used widely in Europe and the rest of the Middle East would be used, but the Authority has now said that this would come as a blow to US firms hoping to establish a presence in Iraq, as they generally operate over the CDMA standard. The debate is ongoing and looks unlikely to be solved in the near future.
