Telefónica mulls sale of four 3G concessions

9 Jul 2003

According to Telecom Paper, Telefónica is considering selling its 3G licences in four European countries – Germany, Italy, Austria and Switzerland – in a bid to recover some of the EUR6.49 billion it has invested in them. In order for the telco to sell the licences, however, legislative changes in three of the four countries are needed; if these are not forthcoming Telefonica faces the prospect of forfeiting its licences simply by not meeting its rollout deadlines.
