The need for more PWLAN hot spots

2 Jul 2003

Telecom industry experts are claiming that the existing 71,000 public wireless local area network (WLAN) hot spots world wide are not sufficient to meet the needs of increasing users. With the number of WLAN hot spot users forecast to reach over nine million in 2003, a massive increase on 2002’s 2.5 million users, it is argued that many more hot spot locations are going to be needed to sustain continued growth. Although the creation of hot spots generates no revenue for the service providers, experts claim that income would be indirectly generated as part of the overall business model.
