A meeting of the five families: telecom giants form joint industry cooperation

20 Jun 2003

Telecom equipment manufacturers Ericcson, Huawei, NEC, Nortel Networks, and Siemens have jointly announced the creation of a Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI). The industry cooperation CPRI is a publicly available specification for the key internal interface of radio base stations enabling manufacturers of base stations to focus solely on their core competencies. The industry hopes to benefit from more efficient product development and broader product breadth from the base station manufacturers. The new CPRI interface will be openly available to the entire wireless industry and will be unveiled within the year.
