Korean equipment manufacturer Samsung Electronics is ramping up its exports of CDMA-related systems to Indonesia, making the company the principal supplier of the country’s wireless backbone network. Having concluded major supply contracts with Ratel Indo and PT Telkom in 2002, the Korean company has now tied up a USD120 million deal with PT Mobile-8 Telecom. Under the contract Samsung will deliver cdma2000-1X and EV-DO switching equipment and base stations with capacity for 1.9 million subscribers. PT Mobile-8, the country’s first private operator, is slated to begin commercial services at the end of this year.
