12 Jun 2003

Cosmofon, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Greece’s OTE [NYSE: OTE], has announced the launch of its mobile network. In just five months Cosmofon has rolled out a network covering two thirds of the Macedonian population; in 2003 the company expects to further develop its network and expand distribution channels at a cost of USD70 million. A further USD105 million has been earmarked for investment during 2004.

Cosmofon currently employs 150 people, a figure which is expected to rise to 250 by the end of the year. The cellco plans to increase its three retail outlets to eight over the next seven months and to increase its points of sale from 113 to reach 2,000. Cosmofon hopes to attract customers by offering competitive rates on pre-paid and post-paid services, per second billing, scaled pricing, low monthly access fees and additional free services such as voicemail, call waiting and caller identification.
