NTT raises fibre-optic speeds

9 Jun 2003

Japan’s Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (NTT) has announced the development of technology that will increase speeds of data transmission tenfold to 1Gbps. The company claims that the system will be ready for mass production in one to two years and will allow increased efficiency when downloading streamed information from the internet, a selling point that NTT hopes will attract customers who have been migrating to mobile use and cut-price Internet Protocol (IP) services.
