Orange facing lawsuit over smartphone contents

6 Jun 2003

UK-based mobile equipment manufacturer Sendo has launched legal proceedings against Orange [Paris: ORA.PA], claiming that the circuit board within the operator’s SPV Smartphone infringes a patent it was granted. Orange has made a public statement strongly denying Sendo’s claims that its intellectual rights within the smartphone and mobile phone area have been broken. Last night a company spokesman said that Sendo would seeking damages and an injunction on sales of the SPV handset. In December 2002 Sendo launched proceedings against Microsoft, claiming the US software giant had stolen elements of its technology after the two companies ditched a joint venture initiative to develop mobile multimedia equipment; that case is due before the courts next month.
