Cellphone maker reports strong overseas sales

2 Jun 2003

The mobile phone production arm of Matsushita Electric Industrial says it expects to export ten million phone units during its current fiscal year, compared with around six million last year. Four-fifths of the sales are predicted to come from Europe and China, while the remainder will be in Asia and the US. With Japanese cellphone makers looking abroad to combat falling domestic sales, Matsushita hopes 2003 will see overseas sales outstripping those in Japan for the first time ever.
