BT takes swipe at Carphone Warehouse in fixed line war

2 Jun 2003

As the fight for the UK fixed line market moves into a higher gear, BT Group has accused rival Carphone Warehouse of ‘confusing and misleading’ customers, says the Financial Times. The retailer is offering customers GBP500 if, after switching, they find out they would have been better off staying put. However, BT has baulked at the sales pitch saying it fails to take into account its new lower pricing and is therefore misleading. Meanwhile, Carphone Warehouse refuses to be drawn into a war of words over tariff structures and maintains that any BT customer is eligible for its price guarantee and that in every case where they have been asked to beat BT’s tariff, they have.
