Orange 3G escape route blocked

28 Apr 2003

French cellco Orange has been refused its request to transfer its Swedish 3G licence to a subsidiary by the country’s Post and Telecoms Authority (PTS). The decision was prompted by Orange’s business partners in 3G Infrastructure Services (3GIS), Hutchison Whampoa and Vodafone, which claimed the French cellco was intending to sell its licence and escape obligations to co-finance the build of 3GIS’ 3G network.
