In the wake of its take-over by Greenfield Capital Partners, O2 Netherlands has announced that it plans to re-brand itself Telfort again within the next six months. The company said that the purpose of resurrecting the previously defunct moniker was to better position itself as a market challenger with a strategic focus on the wholesale mobile sector as well as the consumer and business segments. In its new guise, O2 Netherlands will be the only wireless player in the Dutch market with just the Netherlands as its field of operations. The cellco claims to have a sizeable influence in the wholesale sector and boasts major clients such as debitel and Tele2 Mobiel. According to an independent survey carried out in January 2003, more than 95% of Dutch consumers were still familiar with the Telfort brand name.
In a separate story mmO2, which offloaded O2 Netherlands to Greenfield Capital Partners earlier this week, says it has entered into a collaboration agreement with Intel Corporation to speed the development and delivery of wireless devices and advanced applications. The two companies plan to work in tandem with hardware and software suppliers to bring to market business and consumer applications for use on mobile devices based on the Intel personal client architecture (Intel PCS) protocol. The technology is designed to handle both voice and internet access capabilities and will be used by O2 users.
