Zapp zips past 100,000 subscriber barrier

Fledgling Romanian CDMA operator Zapp, which launched services using the alternative technology a little over a year ago, says it signed up its 100,000th customer at the end of March, thanks in the main to a USD60 million investment in infrastructure which has boosted coverage to over 85% of the urban population. The cellco which is owned by Inquam Limited – itself backed by US CDMA developer Qualcomm – said that around 85% of its customer base is drawn from the business sector which accounts for the bulk of its revenues. The company hopes to reach 200,000 customers by the end of 2003.
