China’s ZTE beats off competition to secure Ethiopian mobile contract

China’s Zhongxing Telecom Corp (ZTE) has seen off stiff competition from Motorola, Nokia, Ericsson, Alcatel and Huawei Technologies, to land a USD29 million contract with the Ethiopian government to expand the country’s mobile phone network. Under the contract, ZTE will increase Ethiopia’s GSM network from 50,000 to 200,000 lines within twelve months.
