Sprint under pressure to help affiliates

2 Apr 2003

US mobile operator Sprint is coming under increasing pressure to help out its wireless affiliates which are blaming it for sending them closer to bankruptcy. The affiliates, whose operations make up approximately 25% of Sprint’s US customer base, have accused Sprint of raising charges and offloading ‘sub-prime’ customers on them. US Unwired, which has a network spanning from Texas to New Hampshire, is contemplating legal action, while another affiliate iPCS, which filed for Chapter 11 protection in February, has already lodged a case.
