Net loss falls and customers increase at UPC

Netherlands-based cable company United Pan-Europe Communications (UPC) has published a EUR2.24 billion net loss for 2002, an improvement on the EUR4.42 billion loss it recorded in 2001. Turnover was up 15% to EUR1.37 million, while monthly average revenue per revenue-generating unit increased by 6% to EUR13.48. UPC had 6.63 million basic cable subscribers at the end of 2002, up from 6.62 million a year earlier, while digital subscribers increased to 126,000 from 78,000. Telephony customers totalled 463,000, up from 455,000 and internet users reached 676,000 from 524,000. DTH subscribers grew to 141,000 from 113,000.
