Kenya drafting telecoms reforms

26 Mar 2003

The Kenyan government is set to end the monopolies of wireline provider Telkom Kenya and ISP Jambonet following the drafting of a sweeping set of reforms for the telecoms sector. The country’s communications minister announced on Monday that a new operator has been earmarked to enter the fixed line market before July, with a further four firms to enter the internet access sector. The draft bill, which is currently being finalised, will also pave the way for the introduction of a third mobile operator.
