DeTeCon to stay at Cotel helm

26 Mar 2003

According to Bolivian telecoms regulator Sittel, German telecoms consultancy DeTeCon has signed a contract which will leave it at the helm of local telco Cotel until at least September. The move follows reports late last year that the German company, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom and Deutsche Bank, had decided to back out of Bolivia as part of a wider strategy to exit unprofitable divisions. Cotel, which operates in the La Paz region, was responsible for 174,632 main lines at the end of June 2002, making it the largest of the 15 local telephone companies in the country.
