Sprint gets green light to hire Forsee

19 Mar 2003

US-based telco Sprint has been given the all clear to appoint Gary Forsee, vice chairman of rival telecoms service provider BellSouth, as its new CEO. However, despite being given permission to hire him with immediate effect, US arbitrator, Judge William Webster, has imposed strict conditions on the terms of his employment which could impact upon his ability to get a handle on the telco’s problems. The court has stipulated that Forsee will be barred from any involvement in mergers and acquisitions, and has restricted his access to the group’s wireless unit Sprint PCS, which is in direct competition with BellSouth’s partially owned cellular entity Cingular Wireless.
