FCC fines Verizon and T-Mobile

The US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has fined Verizon USD5.7 million for marketing long distance phone services in its local market before attaining full FCC authorisation. Verizon admits that it promoted the service on five separate occasions between January and July 2002. The FCC also fined T-Mobile USA USD1.25 million for failing to comply with public safety laws by not making incoming caller numbers available to the 911 emergency services.
